No more knee pain and a staggering 30kg loss. SlimrChat: Your jab life unfiltered

Robert Price, Anna-Louise Dearden | Last update: 21st August 2025

From not fancying wine at dinner, to putting her fork down half way through meals, Jen Bradburn, 45, found the weight loss drugs extremely effective. No longer on the medication, the SEO consultant and small business owner tells us about her love for chocolate covered rice cakes and how the sugar cravings have come back with a vengeance

No more knee pain and a staggering 30kg loss. SlimrChat: Your jab life unfiltered

Why did you decide to start slimming jabs – and what was your turning point?

(We love a lightbulb moment – big or small.)

I injured my knee pretty badly seven years ago and I was still suffering. I knew if I went to my GP they’d tell me my weight was the problem, even though the knee pain was what caused me to gain weight in the first place. It was a bit of a catch 22, and I knew I needed help as I’d struggled to stick to a plan and lose the weight, even though I’d tried.

What surprised you most when you started?

(Be honest. We’ve heard everything from burping air to crying over chips.)

I’d get part way through a meal and suddenly find I couldn’t put another forkful in.

I was done, but I didn’t necessarily feel full…Then 15-20 minutes later it would hit, I’d be like “there it is” – the proof that I’d eaten enough

What’s your jab routine like now – pen, time, tricks?

(Do you set an alarm, use a Post-it, or just wing it?)

When I was on the drugs, I tried to stick to a Sunday evening, the prompt of the new working week ahead was usually enough to remind me. I didn’t worry too much if I missed a dose and took it late though.

Who has been the most supportive person in your WLD journey?

(Mum, bf, total strangers?)

My partner. He has been incredibly supportive, never once judged, didn’t complain when meals didn’t go to plan, was mindful that I kept my calorie intake high enough, and was just a superstar. I think it really helps with success if you have someone 30kg loss on weight loss drugson your team when you’re on this journey.

What’s your go-to comfort food now – and what’s out?

(Pasta forever? Chicken ick? We want it all.)

This is going to sound so lame, but chocolate covered rice cakes, the supermarket’s own brand version with a plain rice cake and a thin layer of chocolate.

Best thing you’ve gained – besides weight loss?

(Confidence? Shoes you can finally lace up? Energy to argue with your partner again?)

Sadly, but greatly, my knee hurts less. Carrying that extra weight wasn’t why I have problems, but it certainly wasn’t helping. I don’t think we often think about how those extra pounds affect our joints, and ultimately our quality of life.

Anything you wish someone had told you at the start?

(Newbies, take notes.)

There’s more than one option. I chose Wegovy because everyone had heard of Ozempic so it seemed like the best choice but I don’t really know if it was. A lot of people taking other medication report fewer side effects however I also know of people whose side effects were far worse. Also, and this is completely anecdotal, I noticed a lot of people talk about sulphur burps, indigestion, and other tummy issues – I didn’t have any of these, but I am also dairy and gluten intolerant so my exposure to those food groups is limited.

What’s your take on the whole easy way out chat – and have you adjusted your lifestyle too – fitness/nutrition etc.?

(Be honest. It helps our readers cope.)

Are laxatives for constipation the easy way out?  The people who say it’s the easy way out probably haven’t struggled with their weight.

My partner lost weight quicker than I did by simply making more mindful choices and eating fewer biscuits – that didn’t work for me. While you’re on the medication, it’s easy to adjust your eating habits. You don’t crave sugar, you don’t really fancy that glass of wine with your dinner, and overeating makes you feel unwell.

What’s your next goal?

(Could be to run for a bus or dance at my daughter’s wedding – or come off the drugs and carry on with a lifestyle change – whatever matters to you.)

I’ve come off the drugs. I missed eating and decided that the dress size I was at, was fine. It is taking a lot of effort to maintain that dress size right now but it has been six months and I’m still there. Now I need to join the gym. The sugar cravings came back with a vengeance so I need to burn more calories each week. And to be brutally honest, it’s time to just love myself a bit better and prioritise my health, which includes eating better and moving more.

Finally – give us your one-liner SlimrChat wisdom?

(What would you write on a Post-it for the next person starting out?)

Don’t focus on the number on the scale! Target where you feel comfortable and confident at. You’ll know when you feel it, as well as see it.
