Evening all! Just curious.....what's everyone's meal schedule like? Do you find fasting for a short period helps? How many meals do you have? When do you get your proteins in (am or pm or eve)? Just wondering what works for you all. personally, I have found that if I have my last emal around 7ish I tend not to really need anything until 10/11 the next morning. I seem to be more energised generally so just interested what works for everyone else?
Hey Greggs, welcome in! 🍽️ this is a great one, loads to unpack for sure. 😅
So yeah, I’ve messed around a lot w meal timing the past year, esp since starting on meds. What I’ve kinda landed on (for now lol) is a loose 3-meal thing + 1 snack if needed. I’m not super rigid but try to keep some structure or I start snacking on random stuff or skipping meals completely n feel like a zombie later 🧟♂️
Re fasting—short fasts work if I’ve eaten a solid dinner the night before. If I eat light, I wake up hangry n craving toast lol. Most days I do a 12-14hr fast (so like stop eating ~8pm, brekkie ~9ish). But I’ve tried 16:8 too, can def be good for appetite control once you get used to it.
Protein-wise, I try to spread it out (key word try lol). I usually do a protein shake in the morning, then something lean like chicken or eggs midday, and dinner is whatever (fish, tofu, etc). Helps w muscle and keeping me full, esp if appetite’s up.
Some peeps swear by big brekkie, others barely eat till noon. So I think your “last meal at 7, eat again 10/11” thing sounds spot on if it works for you. Energy’s a great signal it’s working.
Curious to hear how others go about it too, feels like it’s such an individual thing. Anyway, thanks for sparking a good one! 🙌
Hey Greggs, Totally hear you on the energy thing — it’s mad how much better you can feel when you get into a rhythm that suits you! I've just started...
From my side (busy mum life here 🙋♀️), honestly, I don't fast properly. I feel like just not snacking for a couple of hours now feels like a fast compared to the old me 😂
What’s worked for me is little and often — small meals or snacks every few hours, making sure I’m getting fibre and protein in at each one.
Because the MJ shrinks your appetite so much, I don't think there’s any need to force a fast – the real win is getting enough of the good stuff in.
I just think of it like fueling my body properly: bit of yoghurt and berries mid-morning, bit of chicken and veg at lunch, handful of nuts or a boiled egg mid-arvo if needed. Nothing massive but it keeps me ticking over and stops me crashing.
Hope that helps a bit! Everyone’s different but small + steady works for me so far....
