Why did you decide to start slimming jabs – and what was your turning point?
(We love a lightbulb moment – big or small.)
I had put some weight on over the past few years and felt a bit uncomfortable in my own body. I also didn’t like my ankles, which my daughter called cankles.
I had a three day wedding in Provence to go to and then my daughter’s wedding this year in Cyprus so I wanted to look good and also wear that bikini and swimsuit and not feel fat. I don’t do the gym (although I did previously when younger), so I knew the only way to get a couple of stones off was to reduce food intake, and for that I needed the weight loss injections. I self fund them as I wasn’t obese enough to get them from the NHS.
I take the Semaglutide injection and I would definitely recommend anyone who wants to lose weight to try them.
What surprised you most when you started?
When I started I had an instant dislike of food which surprised me. I really had no desire to eat.
What’s your jab routine like now – pen, time, tricks?
(Do you set an alarm, use a Post-it, or just wing it?)
I do it on a Monday, usually in the morning. Up until January I used to weigh myself on a Monday too. I’ve stopped that now as I think I have reached my optimum weight. In total I’ve lost two and a half stone and gone down two dress sizes on bottoms, and two or three depending on the shop dress size, for top half.
Who has been the most supportive person in your WLD journey?
(Mum, bf, total strangers?)
My daughter, who introduced the injections to me.
What’s your go-to comfort food now – and what’s out?
(Pasta forever? Chicken ick? We want it all.)
I eat the same as I used to eat – so I can eat pasta, pie and chips or chilli, all the things I’ve always eaten, but smaller portions. I eat fruit and veg when I feel like it, for instance if having the likes of a Sunday roast. Cake, sweets, biscuits and chocolate are still my favourite things, but now I just eat less of them.
Although I’ve not altered my food or diet in terms of the things I eat, my portion size is smaller and I’ve reduced how often I eat.
But I basically eat what I want when I want. The weight loss injections just make you eat less as they make you feel full. I have never deprived myself of any type of food. Since the injections I just eat less and can do without meals. I also have three or four pod cappuccinos a day (skinny ones). No tea, and if I’m thirsty I have a glass or two of tonic water as I don’t drink plain water.
Best thing you’ve gained – besides weight loss?
(Confidence? Shoes you can finally lace up? Energy to argue with your partner)
Being able to get into smaller sized clothes.
Anything you wish someone had told you at the start?
(Newbies, take notes.)
No not really. My daughter told me all the things that might happen (side effects), but fortunately they didn’t really happen (see below).
What’s your take on the whole easy way out chat – and have you adjusted your lifestyle too – fitness/nutrition etc.?
(Be honest. It helps our readers cope.)
I have been on injections since October 2024 and taking the injections for me is the easy way out. Well, it’s the easy way out providing you don’t get any side effects – and I have been lucky, apart from an occasional bit of acid reflux (which I didn’t get before I started them). Although at the beginning eating chocolate would give me acid reflux so I stopped eating chocolate. I am fine with it now but can go days without eating any.
I’ve not changed anything to my lifestyle in the way of nutrition or fitness. I drive most places and do work on my laptop, sat down in a contract job. Exercise is pottering about the house, hoovering, or going out shopping – nothing in particular like the gym, although i did used to go when I was younger, I don’t really have any desire to, now.
With the weight loss injections they prevent you from wanting to nibble on food in the evening whilst watching tv! You just don’t want to eat, and so you lose weight.
What’s your next goal?
(Could be to run for a bus or dance at my daughter’s wedding – or come off the drugs and carry on with a lifestyle change – whatever matters to you.)
Within the next month I will stop the injections. I am only on a low dose at the moment and I’m hoping I can continue without them and not put any weight on. Time will tell. But I will go back to them if I feel the pounds are returning.
Finally – give us your one-liner SlimrChat wisdom?
(What would you write on a Post-it for the next person starting out?)
Go for it.
If you try and it’s not for you, you can always stop.
