Just one stubborn stone after the pesky perimenopause. Your jab life unfiltered

Nearing 50, Rachel Middlewick, MD of a marketing company in London, noticed the weight was getting harder to shift. After a weekend away with friends where she felt very self conscious about her body, she decided to take the slimming jab plunge
Why did you decide to start slimming jabs – and what was your turning point?
(We love a lightbulb moment – big or small.)
I had been gaining weight for a couple of years due to the peri menopause and I had started feeling really out of control – no matter what I did, I couldn’t maintain my usual weight. This created negative food noise and self talk. I saw the results people found from the jab, and after a weekend away with my friends where I felt really body conscious, I decided to take the plunge.
What surprised you most when you started?
(Be honest. We’ve heard everything from burping air to crying over chips.)
How instant it was, and how easy. How it just took the food noise away.
What’s your jab routine like now – pen, time, tricks?
(Do you set an alarm, use a Post-it, or just wing it?)
I used to set an alarm. I’ve been in maintenance mode for months now, so I just use the dregs when I feel like I need a micro dose.
Who has been the most supportive person in your WLD journey?
(Mum, bf, total strangers?)
My partner has been really supportive.
What’s your go-to comfort food now – and what’s out?
(Pasta forever? Chicken ick? We want it all.)
I enjoyed more carbs whilst on the jabs, which probably isn’t ideal. All the healthy-ish things I’d eat as snacks before; they went – fruit, crackers, peanut butter…
Best thing you’ve gained – besides weight loss?
(Confidence? Shoes you can finally lace up? Energy to argue with your partner again?)
Less negative noise about my body. Which creates more headspace for more positive things.
Anything you wish someone had told you at the start?
(Newbies, take notes.)
That you don’t need to increase your dose. I stayed on 5mg throughout. Slow and steady was fine with me as I only wanted to lose a stone.
What’s your take on the whole easy way out chat – and have you adjusted your lifestyle too – fitness/nutrition etc.?
(Be honest. It helps our readers cope.)
I didn’t talk about it to anyone to start off with. I kept it completely to myself for a month, then I told my partner. Over time I told a handful of friends. That meant I told people the positive impact it had on me, rather than asking for them to understand, before I did myself.
What’s your next goal?
(Could be to run for a bus or dance at my daughter’s wedding – or come off the drugs and carry on with a lifestyle change – whatever matters to you.)
Maintenance!
Finally – give us your one-liner SlimrChat wisdom?
(What would you write on a Post-it for the next person starting out?)
Go for it! But don’t rush it. That way, when you come out the other side you’ve created long lasting, changed habits.
