Missed a dose of Mounjaro or Wegovy? What you need to think about

Robert Price | Last update: 2nd August 2025

We’ve all been there (I certainly have); with holidays, works, kids, friends and more, it’s really easy to forget to do your weekly jab. Whether you’re using Mounjaro or Wegovy, missing a dose isn’t the end of the world. The key is knowing how to respond safely and sensibly.

So here’s our quick overview of what you need to know if you’ve missed your normal time to take your weight loss treatment.

And remember: if you have any concerns, always speak to your doctor or healthcare provider

Missed a dose of Mounjaro or Wegovy? What you need to think about

The basic rules

  • Never double up to make up for a missed dose.
  • Mind the timing: There should be a minimum gap of 3 days between doses.
  • Stay consistent: Regular injections help regulate your appetite and stabilise any side effects.

If you miss a Mounjaro dose

Missing dose of Mounjaro or Wegovy

Missed by four days or less (under 96 hours)? Take the dose as soon as you remember. Then return to your usual weekly schedule.

Missed by more than four days? Skip the missed dose and wait until your next scheduled injection.

Important: Always allow at least 72 hours between Mounjaro doses. Never take two doses together.

For more information make sure you review the patient information from the manufacturer, Elli Lilly, here.

If you miss a Wegovy dose

Missing Mounjaro or Wegovy dose

Missed by five days or less? Take the dose as soon as possible, then continue with your next injection on your usual day.

Missed by more than five days? Skip it. Restart with your next scheduled dose. Never take two doses together.

Important: Always allow at least 72 hours between Wegovy doses. And as above, never take two doses together.

For more information make sure you review the patient information from the manufacturer, Novo Nordisk, here.

Have you missed more than two weeks?

If you’ve missed more than 14 days, your body may have adjusted to being off the medication. Restarting at your usual dose could increase side effects.

Contact your doctor, or healthcare provider. In most cases they will say you should drop back to a lower dose and gradually build up again.

Be aware that appetite and food noise may well return during extended breaks. To reduce the risk of adding weight, carry on with your nutrition and exercise schedules.

What if my dose is out of stock?

As we’ve reported, demand with weight loss drugs has exploded and there may be supply issues for your treatment. Things to remember:

Is your current dose is available? Stay on it.
If it’s unavailable? Your doctor or healthcare provider may suggest lowering your dose temporarily to stay consistent.
Switching treatments. Sometimes your doctor might advise moving to an alternative medication. If this is the case you’ll usually need to restart at the lowest dose.

Tips to reduce to risk of missing doses

  1. Set reminders: use your phone alarms, calendar alerts or a dedicated medication app.
  2. Tie it to routine: pick the same time and day each week to jab.
  3. Keep it visible: Store your injection pen where you’ll see it (but still refrigerated).
  4. Track it: Use a physical journal or app to tick off each dose.
  5. Plan ahead: prepare for travel or holidays, and bring your medication if needed.
  6. Refill early: don’t leave it to the last minute.
  7. Involve someone else: A friend, partner or family member can offer reminders and support.

It’s important to NEVER buy medication online from unknown or unregulated sources. There’s fake drugs being sold this way so don’t put yourself at risk.

Remember: missing a dose doesn’t mean you’ve failed at all. Your treatment is a long-term journey of change. By staying calm, following these tips and keeping in touch with your doctor, or healthcare provider, you’ll keep moving forward.
