Mounjaro price rises. Pharmacies overwhelmed
Robert Price | Last update: 16th August 2025
We highlighted the risk of Mounjaro and Wegovy prices being forced up by pressure on drug companies by President Trump, including Elli Lilly, back in May. The news broke on Thursday about Mounjaro price increases. Since then it’s all gone crazy! Here’s our quick update

Online pharmacies
Online pharmacies have been deluged by people trying to order their next jabs as well as people trying to get their first jabs. Asda Online Doctor and MedExpress have both told the press that demand has exploded.
Ben, a SlimrChat reader and Asda customer, experienced their site crashing whilst trying to re-order. He said “I had at least 5 attempts to place my order. The site was super slow and payments kept failing. I managed it eventually but it was really stressful.”
We’re seeing a number of steps taken by pharmacies to manage demand:
- New patients – many pharmacies are allowing doses from 5mg upwards for existing patients only, new ones only have access to the 2.5mg starter jabs. Be prepared to try multiple pharmacies if you’re starting your Mounjaro journey.
- Package deals – offering multi dose deals, like those from Chemist 4U and Asda, seems to be expanding. We’re looking into how this is being managed by healthcare providers including the prescribing criteria being applied.
- Pricing- some pharmacies appear to have made discount offers less prominent but it’s not clear whether this is widespread or not. We’re reviewing this and will update when we have a fuller picture.
- Stock – it’s clear that stocks are starting to be in short supply. Asda’s site is showing they are out of stock of 10mg and 12.5mg, for instance.
Linda, a SlimrChat reader, told us “My MJ jab experience has changed my life. It’s not just the weight loss, it’s everything that comes with it. I am so much happier. I will cut back in other areas of my life to afford to continue.”
Switching to Wegovy
Wegovy is expected to stay more affordable and accessible. Pharmacies are highlighting the opportunity to switch from Mounjaro:
Wegovy is, of course, also a prescription only treatment and has the same criteria for patients.
If you’re considering this you need to make sure you talk to your doctor, or healthcare provider, about the transition process and your personalised treatment plan to make sure it’s done safely and effectively.
The things that should be considered:
- Where you are in your weight loss journey and plan
- The side effects you’ve had with Mounjaro
- What dose you’re on with Mounjaro will impact what dose of Wegovy you start on
- The possible need to have a gap of up to 30 days between medications
Fake drugs
Doctors and pharmacists are warning that the cost hike may push desperate users toward unregulated, potentially dangerous alternatives. Some have also highlighted mental health effects for those of us who can’t afford the new prices but have seen dramatic positive effects from the Mounjaro journey.
You should never buy Mounjaro from an unrecognised source, including sellers on social media. Make sure you get your prescription from your doctor or healthcare provider.
More pressure on the NHS?
These price rises are likely to result in more pressure on limited NHS resources. It’s clear the massive growth of us getting private prescriptions has taken a significant burden off the NHS. This is now going to be reversed until, at least, the next generation of treatments start to appear next year.
