New drug available, or not? What is Nevolat?

Robert Price | Last update: 20th October 2025

We’ve seen a ‘new’ less expensive drug appearing on pharmacy sites available for prescription. It’s called “Nevolat” but is it new?

New drug available, or not? What is Nevolat?

So what is Nevolat?

Well, it’s not a new prescription drug. Nevolat is actually the generic version of Saxenda. Most of us are aware of Saxenda because it was one of the first GLP-1 weight loss drugs to be available, or because it has appeared on pharmacy sites but hasn’t been available.

In case you’re not clear, generic drugs are pharmaceutical drugs that contains the same chemical substances as a branded proprietary drug that was originally protected by chemical patents. In short Nevolat is the same as Saxenda but less expensive because it isn’t a protected brand.

Nevolat is a GLP-1 and it’s active ingredient is liraglutide. Like other GLP-1 medications it helps you feel full for longer and eat less. And like Wegovy and Monjaro it’s prescribed alongside a reduced-calorie diet and exercise for adults with obesity or those who are overweight with a related condition such as type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure.

However, unlike the newer weekly jabs, Nevolat is injected once a day. For most of us this is less convenient, but can be more affordable and now available from several UK online pharmacies. Prices

How it works

Like other GLP-1 treatments, Nevolat mimics a natural gut hormone to slow digestion and curb appetite. It’s a proven approach and is the same base mechanism behind Wegovy and part of Mounjaro’s success. It’s just in an older, once-daily format. Here’s our guide to Wegovy and Mounjaro.

We have seen, however, online comment from ex-users of Saxenda who have said they found the side effects of Saxenda more pronounced than they’ve subsequently had on the newer treatments.

More choice

We’ve seen and felt the effects of the UK’s most prescribed choice, Mounjaro, dramatically increasing in price. Wegovy is more affordable but Nevolat could give more people access to a proven weight treatment at a lower price point. It’s less powerful but more attainable.

Of course, it’s vital that you check with your doctor, or healthcare provider, before switching treatment or starting.
