Serena Williams has revealed that she used weight loss drugs to lose weight she struggled to shift after having children, and the reaction has been as strong as it is divided.

Serena Williams’ use of weight loss drugs should give us all confidence in them

TL;DR

  • Serena Williams has confirmed she used a weight loss drug to manage post-pregnancy weight
  • She said the extra weight was affecting her knees and mobility
  • Critics say her use sets unrealistic standards but others say it shows the drugs work
  • SlimrChat says: if Serena trusts these drugs, we should too

Serena opens up and sparks debate

The 23-time Grand Slam champion said she tried “every workout, every diet,” but only found lasting weight loss after using Zepbound, the US version of Mounjaro. The weight gain, she said, followed pregnancy and was causing joint issues.

“I don’t care what people think,” she told News24. “I had to do what was right for my health.”

Why this moment matters

Yes, these drugs are expensive. Yes, they’ve become controversial. But Serena Williams is a world-class athlete and someone who knows her body. If she needed help to manage her weight and stay healthy, what does that tell us?

At SlimrChat, we see this as a turning point. It’s time to acknowledge:

  1. Obesity is a health issue, and it can lead to joint problems, diabetes, and lower quality of life
  2. Weight loss drugs are medicine, not cheating!  They can help those who’ve struggled for years

The SlimrChat view

We don’t support people using these drugs when they don’t need them. But if you do meet the criteria and want help improving your health, you shouldn’t feel judged.

Serena said it best: “I don’t care what people think.”
And neither should you.
