The incentive? ‘Get back into my original wedding dress.’ Your jab life unfiltered

Robert Price | Last update: 24th January 2026

After a lifetime struggle with her weight and a disastrous day of wedding dress shopping, administrator Ann-Marie knew she had to try something different.

Here the 50-year-old tells how she no longer uses her body as a bin for food she’s not hungry for

The incentive? ‘Get back into my original wedding dress.’ Your jab life unfiltered

Why did you decide to start slimming jabs – and what was your turning point?

(We love a lightbulb moment – big or small.)

About two years ago I saw a dietician who recommended I try a slimming injection. I was dead against it as I was determined to lose weight the natural way and not have any side effects. Plus I didn’t want to spend a load of money on something that I thought was a fad!  But one year ago, I had only managed to lose 10lbs. Then my husband asked me to marry him again last year, partly because we missed having a lot of our friends and family there last time, as we got married during Covid.

Get back into my original wedding dress.I went wedding dress shopping but I felt awful in everything I tried on. Nothing looked as nice to me as the dress I wore five years ago. I realised I was never going to fit into it again, never mind in time for our blessing, which was three months away.

I was also pre diabetic and my blood results were getting worse each time.

I decided that I would try the jabs, as my side effects of being so overweight outweighed the jabs concerns by far. I thought it would be a massive bonus if I managed to get into my original wedding dress in time too! I had a back up dress, just in case, as my expectations of being able to lose any weight by this point were extremely low. But guess what, I did get in the dress for our Blessing!

What surprised you most when you started?

(Be honest. We’ve heard everything from burping air to crying over chips.)

I was surprised that some weight came off each week. It was never loads, usually between 1-2lbs a week. I expected to stall after a few weeks, like I had in every other diet I had tried. But I have lost some weight, most weeks.

I also expected to get every side effect going, but I didn’t. I got a headache the day I took the jab and had some major constipation! But I realised I wasn’t drinking enough water, and now I’ve sorted that, things are much better.

Like many others, I had heard about losing food noise, but I didn’t think it would work with me. I was constantly thinking about food. I was convinced I had a sugar addiction.

I was in a cycle of starting the day with high motivation and good intentions and ended up crying at the end of the day because I had messed it up again.

I thought I was doomed to be in this cycle forever.

But I can now eat my meal and even a little bit of something nice after and not want to keep eating more of the sweet sugary things. I used to feel deprived if I didn’t eat what I was craving, now I rarely crave anything at all. I can even eat half a dessert when out and happily leave the other half on my plate. I no longer use my body as a bin for food I’m not hungry for.

What’s your jab routine like now – pen, time, tricks?

(Do you set an alarm, use a Post-it, or just wing it?)

I do mine on a Saturday morning,  so if I have a headache, I can rest over the weekend. I did get my husband to jab my arm, but it ended up infected. Apparently it’s quite a common area to get an infection. I’m now back to alternate stomach sides. I write a note in my phone calendar each week so I can remember what side I last jabbed in.

Who has been the most supportive person in your WLD journey?

(Mum, bf, total strangers?)

My husband, and some friends who are also on Mounjaro.  My husband cooks our meals and he has been amazing at weighing all the ingredients and trying new recipes.

He sees the financial side of the jabs as an investment in our future. Hopefully, it’s ex

What’s your go-to comfort food now – and what’s out?

(Pasta forever? Chicken ick? We want it all.)

I have been lucky as nothing has had to come off my menu. I can still go out for an Italian o

r a pizza. I just don’t want all the extras I used too.

I have gone off some really fatty foods like burgers, I just don’t enjoy the taste anymore. Chocolate is no longer my comfort food. I would say Granola with fruit and plain yogurt is what I tend to go for now. I add protein powder and I feel I’ve had something sweet but filling too.

Best thing you’ve gained – besides weight loss?

(Confidence? Shoes you can finally lace up? Energy to argue with your partner)

Not stressing about food all the time! The head space I now have is amazing. I can’t believe how much time I used to think about what I had eaten, what I was going to eat and what I shouldn’t eat (on and on). My blood sugars aredown and I’m nowhere near pre diabetic anymore. That feels amazing as I know I have swerved a load of potential problems in my future.

I can now find my size in most shops. I’m no longer ashamed to start looking at the back of the clothes rail and finding out they didn’t go up to my size and having to say to my husband “they don’t do my size”.

He was always great about it but a little bit of me died inside every time.

I can also sit in chairs with arms. If you know, you know! I don’t have to constantly look for a chair that I can fit into without squashing myself so much that the sides were cutting into me, and then pretending that no one noticed!

Anything you wish someone had told you at the start?

(Newbies, take notes.)

Water, water and water – with electrolytes for me – are so important.  I was never a big water drinker and my weight stalled for a bit till a friend noticed how little I drank. Now I keep a bottle with me and it’s made a big difference to my weight and how I feel. Without the electrolytes, I just pee it out as quickly as I drink it!

What’s your take on the whole easy way out chat – and have you adjusted your lifestyle too – fitness/nutrition etc.?

(Be honest. It helps our readers cope.)

It’s no easy way out. It has never stopped me eating after three bites! Yes it’s helped my servings be smaller, but if I don’t choose the correct foods, the ones with protein and fibre, I can easily overeat and put weight back on. Christmas was proof of that!

People think that it melts the fat away and takes no effort and that’s so wrong. Due to the food noise being much quieter, I can now say no to a cake that’s offered to me, but I still have to make that decision, it’s just a bit easier.

I calorie count (most of the time), and it’s not that easy making sure I get the correct protein and fibre daily. I have learnt a lot about nutrition.

I take this medication as I have tried for 20 years to lose weight. I’ve tried every diet going, seeing dieticians and reading a library of books and studies. I went to sleep listening to podcasts, but my body just wouldn’t let me lose more than 10lbs.

This medication has given my body what it needs to feel safe and allowed it to slowly lose some much needed weight.

Get back into my original wedding dress.

It’s not a quick fix and I’m not at goal weight yet, but I know I have a good chance of getting there now.

What’s your next goal?

(Could be to run for a bus or dance at my daughter’s wedding – or come off the drugs and carry on with a lifestyle change – whatever matters to you.)

I would love to get stronger. Not all muscles, but have some core strength so I feel my age, not 10 years older, like I do now. I’m looking forward to going down another couple of sizes. That shopping trip will be a dream come true. To not be stuck to certain shops or styles, that will feel so amazing.

Finally – give us your one-liner SlimrChat wisdom?

(What would you write on a Post-it for the next person starting out?)

Don’t expect it to be a quick journey as it’s not for everyone and don’t always believe all the headlines, good or bad!
