The UK government has announced a new research programme inviting thousands of people from some of Scotland’s poorest communities to trial weight loss drugs in real-world conditions.

The UK Government has launched a new weight loss drug study in Scotland to explore how weight loss drugs perform outside clinical trials. Patients from communities in Scotland with the highest health inequalities will be invited to take part.

The research, backed by the Department of Health and Social Care, will assess the long-term impact of these medicines on health and healthcare use – and aims to inform future policy.
