10 Questions. Your jab life, unfiltered.

For this first one we’ve asked Robert, SlimrChat founder, to kick us off.

10 Questions. Your jab life, unfiltered.

Why did you decide to start slimming jabs – and what was your turning point?

(We love a lightbulb moment – big or small.)

I’ve always felt uncomfortable with my weight and size since I was a teenager. Obviously, like everyone, the older I got the harder it was to lose weight. I’ve had reasonably long periods of being smaller and I’ve always eaten well and exercised, but the weight crept up again. The decision to start on Mounjaro came after I had a knee replacement and just felt rubbish about my size after my op. A really great friend of mine had started the jabs and it felt like the perfect time to combine the period of recovery with help to lose weight and to start getting fit ready for being older.

What surprised you most when you started?

(Be honest. We’ve heard everything from burping air to crying over chips.)

I was surprised by how the treatment was so effective at reducing food noise and the desire to eat. It made me even more mentally focussed on success – a super positive effect! I did realise early that you can ‘defeat’ the drug if you want but what’s the point in that!?

Mounjaro weight loss journeyWhat’s your jab routine like now – pen, time, tricks?

(Do you set an alarm, use a Post-it, or just wing it?)

I had advice from the start to do the jab on a Thursday to make sure I got the full effect over the weekend. I committed to that all the way through my treatment, with only a few errors!! It definitely works because ‘taper’ days are challenging.

Who has been the most supportive person in your WLD journey?

(Mum, bf, total strangers?)

My kids, 23 and 27, were super positive and supportive. I worried they would consider it cheating. They 100% didn’t. And they’re delighted in how it’s worked for me. The SlimChat community has been great too – exactly the reason we started it – to share everyone’s experiences.

What’s your go-to comfort food now – and what’s out?

(Pasta forever? Chicken ick? We want it all.)

OMG! Fatty foods made me feel terrible. And still do. I really wanted fish and chips but it made me SO ill. Also my desire for booze has collapsed forever I think. Anyone who has had an MJ hangover never wants another one!!

Best thing you’ve gained (besides weight lost)?

(Confidence? Shoes you can finally lace up? Energy to argue with your partner again?)

I just love being able to feel comfortable in my own skin. It’s such a great feeling for me. It really is. Everything feels better.

Anything you wish someone had told you at the start?

(Newbies, take notes.)

Make cooking all your own meals part of your journey. Be adventurous and healthy with the food. Knowing what you eat because you’re making it is fun for you and your family. It stops the slide into takeaways and rubbish processed food. And it’s cost effective if you plan. Eat protein because it’s super important. Oh, and make booze less important in social life. This takes time (especially for someone with my personality) but is rewarding for sleep, health and weight!

What’s your take on the whole easy way out chat – and have you adjusted your lifestyle too (fitness/nutrition etc.)?

(Be honest. It helps our readers cope.)

It’s not an easy way out. If you don’t address other aspects of your diet and nutrition, and exercise (building muscle is vital), then you won’t get long term results. But it helps a better you to appear over time. It’s not a magic bullet at all.

What’s your next goal?

(Could be run for a bus” or “dance at my daughter’s wedding – or come off the drugs and carry on with a lifestyle change – whatever matters to you.)

Mounjaro weight loss journey

I’m off the MJ now so I’m on the maintenance journey. I feel like I’ve done so much so I’m not giving up.  I’ll be seeing what community members are saying about their maintenance experiences so I can avoid any issues. That said, I would definitely go back on it if I needed to.

Finally – give us your one-liner SlimrChat wisdom?

(What would you write on a Post-it for the next person starting out?)

Learn about the drugs, understand side effects, have a plan, be open with friends and family, be consistent – and cook your own food.
