Thinking about starting Wegovy, Mounjaro, or another treatment? Share your questions, compare experiences, and chat with others who’ve explored the options.
Hi everyone,
Bit of a weird one and wondering if anyone here has had the same experience...
I had a consultation last week about starting on Mounjaro and everything seemed to be going fine, but then I was told I wasn’t eligible because I had breast cancer a few years back. It really threw me. I’ve tried to look it up and can’t find much about it being a no-go if you’ve had breast cancer before (I didn’t have chemo, just surgery and radiotherapy). I’m just feeling a bit stuck now.
Has anyone else here had this happen? Or is currently on Mounjaro with a similar history? Would be great to hear if you've found a way through or got better clarity.
Thanks in advance ❤️
– Sophie
Hi Sophie 👋
Thanks for sharing this – I’m not in exactly the same boat, but my mum had breast cancer and I remember the docs being super cautious with anything hormonal or affecting metabolism. I’ve heard there *can* be concerns around Mounjaro and personal or family history of certain cancers, but it sounds like it’s a bit of a grey area.
Maybe worth getting a second opinion from a different prescriber? Especially someone who’s more clued-up on weight loss treatments. Also – sending you loads of respect for coming through that cancer journey. You’ve already done something so tough 💪
Keep us posted
Hey Sophie,
I was told something similar when I was first looking into Wegovy last year (ended up switching to Mounjaro later on). I didn’t have breast cancer but have a history of endometrial cancer in my family and the prescriber flagged it as a “watch this space” kind of thing.
I agree with Ella – sometimes it's less about hard rules and more about the specific risk profile + how cautious your provider is. I had better luck going through a private weight loss clinic who were open to discussing options more thoroughly (and actually explained why the concerns were there, which helped loads).
Hope you get some clearer answers soon
Hi lovely,
First of all, just want to say – well done for pushing through all of this and still showing up for your health. That’s something to be really proud of 🌻
I haven’t been in your shoes but I have had a few health conditions that made me feel like I was getting “boxed out” of options. What helped me was taking everything step by step and asking for written clarification. It gave me something concrete to take to another provider and ask, “What do you think?”
Also – sending hugs. It can be so disheartening when you feel like you’re finally ready to make a positive change and then hit a wall.
Thanks so much everyone – honestly wasn’t expecting replies this quickly and it’s made me feel a bit less alone in it all.
I think you’re all right about needing another opinion. I did get the sense the first clinic was being overly cautious, but I didn’t know how to push back without sounding reckless! I’m going to look into some of the private clinics and see if anyone’s more experienced with this kind of background.
Will update here in case it helps someone else later.
Yes please do! Would love to know how you get on.
And just for anyone else reading this – always trust your gut too. If something feels off, it’s so worth asking the extra questions or trying another route. You deserve to be taken seriously and to feel confident in your choices.
