Why did you decide to start slimming jabs – and what was your turning point?
(We love a lightbulb moment – big or small.)
I started Mounjaro in March 2024. I’d lost weight and regained it so many times over the years I was at the end of my tether. In January I had a skiing accident, an avoidable stupid slow speed fall that resulted in a complete rupture of my ACL. With the physics of the fall, and my excess weight, my knee never stood a chance. Mounjaro was fairly new in the UK when I decided to try it, and I can recall nervously checking my emails to see if I’d been approved.
The relief when my prescription was on its way will stay with me forever.
I stayed with such excitement but tried to be realistic given that I’d failed so many times. But very quickly I felt free, free from the food thoughts, free from the constant battle with my body, and there was no sense of having to deny or starve myself, a feeling that had accompanied all the fad diets I’d tried and failed before.
What surprised you most when you started?
(Be honest. We’ve heard everything from burping air to crying over chips.)
The sense of freedom, I felt empowered like never before. Then came the overwhelming desire to protect and nourish my body, I think it was because for the first time, other than growing my two boys, it was actually doing what I was willing it to do.
What’s your jab routine like now – pen, time, tricks?
(Do you set an alarm, use a Post-it, or just wing it?)
I’m on a 5mg maintenance dose, I still take it weekly as I’m not convinced there’s enough data to support micro dosing or longer intervals. Right now I’m happy.
Who has been the most supportive person in your WLD journey?
(Mum, bf, total strangers?)
My family all knew, I was very open about it with anyone who asked. When I started there was no real online community like there is now, I’m enjoying engaging with that now I’m on the other side, but I would have loved that support at the start.
What’s your go-to comfort food now – and what’s out?
(Pasta forever? Chicken ick? We want it all.)
I eat a balanced diet, I still have treats. It’s the volume that’s changed, my portions are smaller and I don’t snack. But I really have gone off wine, I prefer a beer now.
Best thing you’ve gained – besides weight loss?
(Confidence? Shoes you can finally lace up? Energy to argue with your partner again?)
My new business venture – it was totally influenced by my journey. A few months into taking Mounjaro I started to research supplements to take to support my body. Every article, blog or website I searched seemed to give me different advice, I ended up on 18 capsules and tablets a day. Multi vitamins, vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, biotin.
I was literally rattling, I’d stand at the sink and gag as I swallowed them down.
Each day I would think there has to be a better way to do this. Nothing on the market was designed to support this unique journey, so given my background in pharmaceuticals I decided to create something. HerVibe total support duo is the first targeted companion supplement for women on a GLP-1 journey. It’s a daily system designed to deliver 12 key nutrients at the right time of day.
Anything you wish someone had told you at the start?
(Newbies, take notes.)
That it would be the most life changing journey and I should document it like the trip of a lifetime! Sadly I have very few before photos as I hated my picture being taken.
What’s your take on the whole easy way out chat – and have you adjusted your lifestyle too – fitness/nutrition etc.?
(Be honest. It helps our readers cope.)
It’s not an easy way out, it’s me taking control of my health and my body for the first time.
My nutrition is now simple and totally supported by the very product my journey inspired me to create.
What’s your next goal?
(Could be to run for a bus or dance at my daughter’s wedding – or come off the drugs and carry on with a lifestyle change – whatever matters to you.)
My next goal is to continue maintaining and help more women get the nutritional support they need to get the best results for themselves too.
Finally – give us your one-liner SlimrChat wisdom?
(What would you write on a Post-it for the next person starting out?)
The medication does one job. You still have to do the rest.
